Which Motorcycle is Best to Explore Leh Ladakh?

Leh and Ladakh are famous for their glorious mountains, scenic views, natural habitat, and a lot more. The experience of exploring the combination of Manali and Kashmir and its hordes of the Himalayan Ibex, Marmot, is unmatchable. However, all of it can be tasted by opting for the Royal Enfield Ladakh trip. This is the most preferred choice for a biker. Choosing a bike that allows you to be comfortable yet versatile while on the road. The ruggedness and the upright seating position make it possible for you to leave no stone unturned while exploring the landscape of Leh and Ladakh.

Best Time to Embark on a Leh Ladakh Bike Trip

Leh and Ladakh can only be explored for a brief time of the year. The best time to plan a trip is from June to September.

  • June: Roads are open, minimal rain, and stunning snow-capped views.
  • July & August: Monsoon months with lush green landscapes (fewer tourists).
  • September: End of season, colder weather, and snow-covered peaks.

DAY 2: DELHI - SHIMLA - 351 KMS
After introduction to the backup team and motorbikes, ride to the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Upon arrival, walk around Mall Road. Overnight Shimla.

DAY 3: SHIMLA - MANALI - 270 KMS
Ride to Manali, enjoy the magical panoramic ride from Mandi to Manali along the River Beas. Overnight Manali.

DAY 5: MANALI - SARCHU - 225 KMS
We will make an early start towards Sarchu, our next night halt. The abundance of greenery and trees dramatically disappears into arid landscapes as we ascend the steep mountains. We can expect a few muddy tracks at times and water crossings where the melting snow from the higher ranges flows down the road. We will ascend Baralacha La Pass (4830 meters) and then cross into the Zanskar ranges to our camp. Overnight Sarchu.

DAY 6: SARCHU - LEH - 251 KMS
We'll make another early start today to cross Brandy Nallah, Gata Loops and the double-humped pass Lachulung La (5060m). It's awe-inspiring scenery (if bleak at times) all the way today as we cross Pang (4630m) and the More Plains - a flat stretch of 48 km at an average height of 4200m to reach the world's second highest motorable pass Tanglang La (5360m). Overnight Leh.

DAY 7: LEH - AT LEISURE IN LEH TOWN
The day is at leisure to get acclimated. Overnight Leh.

DAY 8: LEH - KHARDUNG LA (5602 M) - NUBRA - 150 KMS
Today is the day we all came on this ride - to be on Top of the World - the Khardung La (5602m). The smooth going track becomes tougher as we ascend, full of boulders and stones - but it is certainly worth the ride. After a short break we will move on to reach the Nubra Valley. It is a fantastic ride over fairly good, paved roads most of the time. Overnight Nubra Valley.

DAY 9: NUBRA - PANGONG - 140 KMS
Today we head towards Pangong Tso via Sheok. The Pangong Tso (lake of great hollowness) is almost 130 km long and 6 to 7 km wide, extending east to west at a height of 14000 ft. Overnight Pangong.

DAY 10: PANGONG - LEH - 170 KMS
Today we will head back to Leh. We'll make an early start and try to reach Leh by afternoon. We need a well-deserved rest. Overnight Leh.
